Proposal

Posted in Collaborative Work Project on 28/05/2010 by Tim Bradley

I propose to make a promotional film for the event. It could go on the show website, York College website and on the college tv screens.
The film will tell you where the show is and when. It will also tell you what is in the show.
The proposal has been accepted by the course tutor.
The film must show that there are a lot of extremely talented artists in the show. None of the artists will actually appear in the film – only their work with the title and artists name. Anything else would be clutter. The work must speak for itself. Obviously there will not be enough time in the film to show all the work by all the artists. Choices will have to be made. Editing and sequencing will be extremely important to make this proposal work.

Planning for A Level Showcase

Posted in Collaborative Work Project on 28/05/2010 by Tim Bradley

The group met course tutor Simon Morris before Easter to discuss our initial ideas. He accepted our proposals.

Plan

Film – All I require from the college is for the work to be made available for filming together with the titles and artist’s names.
The students may or may not be present – it doesn’t matter.
I will use my own equipment for filming. There will be no storyboard because the order of the finished film depens on the artworks filmed. It will be the order which looks right.

Editing – This will be done at home.

Feedback – A playable DVD will be presented for feedback. Any agreed alterations will be made and the finished product will be delivered on a playable DVD.

Timscale – A date needs to be arranged for filming – the sooner the better.
The finished product will be delivered by the agreed deadline.

Target Audience For My Digital Identity

Posted in Collaborative Work Project on 28/05/2010 by Tim Bradley

As a film maker my target audience would be anyone who would like a film made. I would not want to exclude anybody. I would want to seem approachable. This was the reason I chose the word style rather than aesthetic. I think it sounds more down to earth.
My target audience would not even be restricted to people requiring films. The skills image manipulation skills I have aquired could be used to make posters or repair photographs. I would consider doing these tasks as well. I have done some sound manipulation for film soundtracks and would also consider this.

Content For My Social Media Platform

Posted in Collaborative Work Project on 27/05/2010 by Tim Bradley

I will use it to make anouncements when I have a new piece of work. As an example I will post a link when my film for York College A Level Art Show 2010 goes on the website.
I will use it to make anouncements about my work with Castaway of Goole especially relating to their summer performance of Romeo and Juliet at Junction Theatre Goole.

The Social Media Platform For My Digital Identity

Posted in Collaborative Work Project on 27/05/2010 by Tim Bradley

The platform I have chosen is Twitter. I will make a new account. I already have one but I have never posted a single tweet!
I have chosen Twitter because I would not be posting examples of my work. There are simply not enough of them to justify the billing I have given myself in my digital identity. It is however a genuine and realistic aspiration. I will post examples of my video work on Vimeo and/or Youtube and graphics (posters, film titles etc) on Flickr when I consider them to be of the required standard. I will not be rushed into doing so.

Soundtrack for A Level Art Show Film

Posted in Collaborative Work Project on 15/05/2010 by Tim Bradley

I am creating my own soundtrack for the A Level Art Show. This is my response to the artworks in the film. It is inspired by Oliver Postgate’s Small Films and Lee Perry’s Black Ark recordings. I have recorded some sounds at home and outside on a digital voice recorder. These recordings are in mono. I held the recorder as close as possible to the sound source to try and get some distortion. I have combined and manipulated them on the computer using Audacity until they sound nothing at all like the original sounds. They have been converted into stereo and there is some panning from speaker to speaker like on Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland album.
I have recorded the following sounds:
Running Taps
Wind Chimes (these sound almost like feedback at one point)
Tumble Dryer
Hair Dryer
Shaking a packet of peanuts / porridge
Hitting glass objects with a chopstick
Crowded Room
Traffic Noise
For the photography section I started with a running tap and wind chimes (not the section that sounds like feedback). Using the Envelope Tool in Audacity I set a control point every 4 seconds. I adjusted the volume in each track so that there was 100% tap with 0% chimes, 50% each and finally 0% tap with 100% chimes. I did a mono mix. I added the peanuts and reduced the volume so thay did not drown out the first track. I did another mono mix. I reversed the whole track, applied the wah wah effect and finally inverted everything.

A Level Art Show Poster

Posted in Collaborative Work Project on 15/05/2010 by Tim Bradley

We were asked to design a poster for the A Level Art Show. It was to be inspired by the Constructivist or Bauhaus style. The colours red, black and white were suggested. Pictures of exhibits were to be included. The York College logo must appear in the top right hand corner.
This is my poster.
