Fruity Loops

Posted in Visual Auditory Literacy on 10/12/2009 by Tim Bradley

We experimented with Fruity Loops which is music making software. I soon worked out how to produce drum patterns from the real drumkit samples. Here are the titles:

Drums
Drums2
CAN
Hyson Green
Slowdown

I used “Hyson Green” and “Slowdown” in my Electronic Image Making Project “A Few Short Sketches about Sloth”.

I also downloaded the free LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio) for home use as a result of this exercise.

My First Photostory

Photostory 3 is a free download from Microsoft which allows you to sequence photos and add a soundtrack. We were told to make a short story and post it on Youtube.

I chose one of my own photos of Newark Castle and applied all the available effects to it. This gave me eleven pictures (including the original). I kept the default motion (“Ken Burns” Effect) for all pictures.

For the soundtrack I chose “Hallogallo” by “Neu!” from their highly recommended self-titled debut album. I varied the duration for each picture so that each change coincided with an accent on the ride cymbal. I had to work out the times listening to the CD as you can’t do it in Photostory.

The story is called “Untitled #1″ as a tribute to Mark Rothko.
